Welcome Back to Memory and Metacognition Updates
Jonathan Firth's Memory & Metacognition Updates #50
Hello, and welcome my 50th newsletter, and the first one since the summer!
It’s taken a bit longer to restart than I was expecting. Guess what—the start of term is busy. Who knew?! 😅
I’m currently in the process of launching/refreshing several modules, as part of my role at The Strathclyde Institute of Education. All relate to the psychology of education, with plenty of opportunities to talk about memory and metacognition, as well as critical thinking, learning theories, and much more.
As I developed these modules, I engaged with a lot of research, and I’ll be sharing some of the best articles and studies over the coming year.

Prior to the summer, I asked what readers would like to see in this newsletter. The cognitive science of memory was the most popular response, followed by classroom techniques. So, look out for plenty on those topics in the coming weeks.
To start with, check out this post about schemas—an important foundation to understanding long-term memory, in my view, and a concept with implications for classroom practice, curriculum planning, and much more.

All the best, and thanks for reading and sharing! 😎
